Our new baby!

Well, let me start this incredibly long post with a disclaimer. It is long :). Feel free to quit any time. And I know that baby posts can be a sensitive topic for some people. Believe me, I've been there. I just want to give fair warning before I start it all so just in case you aren't interested, you can quit now. :)

Ok. So now for the novel. :) So here I am pregnant. I was so so grateful that I had such a healthy pregnancy especially after my miscarriages last year. I was already a nervous wreck the whole time. I would probably would have been admitted if I had actually had any problems. haha! :). Luckily there were none. This was taken 2 days before I got induced, so you get the idea of how BIG I got.

Anyway. I'll probably be glad to have those pics much later down the road. So my situation with this Sweet Pea was a little sticky when it came to going into labor. I had to have a c-section with Dozer because he was too big to fit. I really really wanted to try a VBAC this time because I would not be able to even try a vaginal delivery if I had 2 c-sections. So this pregnancy was my only chance to try. My doctor said that he would just keep an eye on her weight to see how things got closer to the end. If she got too big, then we might have to have a c-section anyway. Which would have been fine. I just wanted a healthy baby. So as I started getting closer to my due date, she kept getting bigger and bigger. The kicker was, that you are not supposed to induce someone with a previous c-section because ptosin makes your contractions much harder than natural ones and increases the chances of uterine rupture at the c-section scar. So I was a little stuck. Wait until I go into labor and possibly need a c-section because she is too big to fit, or make an appointment for a c-section. I really wanted to try VBAC so I decided to wait. Well, then I got a little lucky :). I was having lots of contractions for 2 weeks prior to my last appointment. Nothing that was close to labor, but they were still doing their job. I was 90% thinned and dialated to 3-4 cm. My doctor said that that looked really good and that I should do really well with induction. He tried to get me into the hospital on saturday, but it was booked full! Apparently the birthday 9-10-11 was a hot commodity. So the soonest they could get me in was tue night :(. It doesn't seem so bad now, but man having to wait 3 extra days was NOT what I had in mind. But I didn't have much of a choice. I tried all sorts of stuff over the weekend to put myself into labor, but none of them worked :(. So my hubby took me into the hospital tue night at 8pm. (let me tell you how long THAT day was.) I was all hooked up and got started at 9pm. They start the ptosin at a 2. which is as low as it goes. The highest setting is 20 u/min. After a while they bumped me to 4. Then my dr came in and broke my water. I know from experience that breaking water=very painful contractions. So I asked for an epidural because I'm not that into experiencing severe pain. Just then, the anesthesiologist sticks his head into my room and asked if I wanted an epidural. He had a c-section to go to and was wondering if I wanted it now or after. wow, what a nice guy! Now please! So by 11 pm I had my epidural, was up to 6 on the ptosin, and dilated to a 5. So now I just get to sit and wait. Who knows how late this was going to go. My luck all night. haha! So I'm just waiting at this point and texting a few people. But I start to feel really sick. Like really sick. I am shaking like I've been sitting in ice water, and I feel like I'm going to throw up. I asked my hubby to bring a trash can over in case I threw up. And also, I'm starting to feel the pain of the contractions. And I am pushing my "extra meds" button as often as I could. I even wondered if I had come unhooked because it was getting so painful. Then my nurse comes in, checks things, looks at me, and says that I don't looks so hot. I told her I felt awful. So she said I might be transitioning and that she would check me. I'll never forget the look on her face! haha! she checked me and I was completely dilated. I went from a 5 to a 10 in an hour! No wonder I was so sick and feeling so much pain! She turned down the ptosin to 2 again to give me a break and gave me some zofran for the nausea. Wow, I felt SOO much better! I had been wondering how in the WORLD was I going to make it through this delivery feeling like this!??! Thank you western medicine! Then they just let me sit for an hour and let the contractions push her down further before I had to start pushing. And also at this point I'm going completely numb because I had pushed the button so many times :) It felt great :) I finally get to start pushing, and it was so amazing! She was moving, her heart rate didn't drop, I couldn't feel it, It was pretty thrilling. Then she was down far enough that they got the dr and the nurses for the baby. I pushed 2-3 more times and the dr pretty much had to catch her when her head came through. They cleaned her off on my stomach. I got to hear her cry. I got to hold her on my chest. It was so beautiful. I just cried :). The births of my children and my wedding day are my most favorite days of my life. The nurses took her at that point and cleaned her off, weighed her and such. And she was just a screaming! :) And she also pooped all over me and the nurses. Haha! It must have been some story because every nurse on the floor knew about it. Then I got to nurse her after I got all fixed up. What a bonding moment. :) And I didn't get a picture of us in the hospital! :( These are in the hospital though. Here's my baby girl!

My mom says she looks like me, but i think she looks like her brother :).

Heck yes that is a pink John Deere blanket!! It was made by one of my close friends :) She is so so amazing! The blanket was a huge hit too! All the nurses loved it!

Very first day home from the hospital :). I just want to point out the super cool punk/poison blanket i made!

First couple days back from the hospital. The little pink bow was made by another of my close friends :) It is so cute! I need to buy outfits to match the bow instead of the other way around!

k
Compare this....
to this!!! I think some resemblance yes?
I am having too much fun with a girl!
Little fingers :)

And little feet :)

Super slouch :) This was on sunday. We didn't go to church, but I still wanted to put a dress on her.
This is the bow that goes with that dress :)

Shot of her hair
We gave her a sponge bath and it made her hair all fuzzy :) too cute!

This was the first time Dozer showed any interest in Sweet Pea. He got so giggly when we tried to get him to hold her! It was so cute! I wish my hubby would have been home for these pics though :(

The reason I even look presentable in these is because it was her first check up with the dr. She was at 7 lb 14 oz 5 days after delivery. They only need to be at birth weight by 2 weeks, so she is gaining weight well!
And I took these today. Again the flower was given to me :) I am one lucky girl!
This is how she curls up at night after she nurses :) Melt my heart!

Over all she is a great baby. She is a great nurser. She nurses ALL the time. I try to get her on some sort of pattern or schedule, and she just doesn't care! I'm debating whether its worth the fight or not :). She doesn't like to be put down at all. Which makes me feel bad for Dozer :( I hope he doesn't get too attention deprived. She sleeps well when I can get her to sleep. I just love my two kids so much. My little family is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I don't know how I could survive without them!

Final Preparations

The one thing I love about deadlines is how MUCH you can get done!  My amazing hubby and I have done so many projects and gotten so much cleaned out.  Our house looks great right now!  Well, besides the laundry and toys.  Those things never seem to stay clean.  But things in the yard (minus the garden) are taken care of, things in the basement are completely cleaned out, DI donations are out, the garage is cleaned out, the garbage is gone, some things from the garden are canned, and I really have run out of things to do these last few days.  Well, kind of.  The garden needs to be weeded a bit, my tomatoes are extremely ripe, and there are a ton of peppers that need some care as well.  Anyway.  I'm not in the mood to do what really needs to be done haha!.  So here are some of the projects I've finished lately.  Here is our little lawn ornamental tractor.  Believe me, this is a SERIOUS improvement!  It looks so good compared to pre paint job :)  I'm rather proud of myself.  Dozer was really trying to be a big help too.  I used the blue painting tape to do the edges, and he thought that was so cool!  He kept wanting pieces to add to the tractor.  So I would tear off small pieces and let him put them on.  Luckily he mostly stuck the pieces to the tires where I wasn't painting anyway.  It was pretty cute :).
Here is my small chicken coop.  We have 3 chickens and this coop is the perfect size.  I had painted it before, but our goats (that we don't have anymore) RUINED it!  So I had my hubby re caulk it and I repainted it.  The small box on the front is where you gather the eggs.  The entrance is on the side, and we actually had to reconstruct it to make it smaller.  I cannot even explain to you how a 2 1/2 yo could fit through the hole before, but he could.  Gross.  Anyway, here it is all pretty and finished.
This is Dozer's new room!  I was pretty proud of myself.  I designed the whole thing myself, and my mom helped me paint it. We painted the zig zag stripes, I painted the big brown one, and you can kind of see the small monsters on the brown one.  They are decal stickers.  I wont take the credit for designing those :).  I LOVE the bed spread.
The other wall.  This was the one my mom helped me with the most, so of course it looks the best :).
Believe it or not, I made this :).  I made one for my little nephew too that is the same except the back is stars instead of paisley.  Dozer will get this for his birthday in January.  I know it's forever away, but it wouldn't have gotten done if it didn't get done now.  But isn't it cute?  I have really had fun learning how to quilt!  Sometimes I feel like pulling my hair out because it wont go together right, but mostly it has been fun!
And I didn't take a picture, but use your imagination :).  We have canned so far a case of pickles, 2 pints of pickle relish, 4 pints of jalapenos, a case of banana peppers, a case and a half of tomatoes, and 6 pints of salsa.  And there is at least double that still in the garden.  :(  I should really get working on that instead haha!

Some funny adventures

I just thought I'd share some of the funny things that have gone on here lately :). They weren't funny when it happened, but they are funny now. I'm sure you parents know how that goes.

The cleaning oxymoron.

I've been trying to deep clean they house the last couple weeks. I've been putting it off really, until as late as I can possibly stand it so I don't have to do it twice before the baby comes. It's the ultimate procrastinator in me. I cleaned the carpets with some awesome rug dr powder, scrubbed the fridge, dusted in places that never even see the light of day, etc. Well, I decided it was late enough to wash the couch cushion covers. I have a light couch which I would have NEVER bought if I had known how terribly it shows EVERYTHING. These cushions show spots if it just gets wet. So you can imagine all the spots on them from slobber, snot, sippy cups, pen, mud, etc, etc, etc. You learn a lot with kids. I tried to keep them looking nice for a really really long time, but it is a lot of work! And you end just end up with new spots on them the next day no matter what. Now they have to get pretty bad before I wash them again. Well, of course, this time was no different. I went to the trouble of washing them all nice and new and actually got to admire how amazing they look all clean for a couple of hours. Then this happened.
You can imagine my horror. Black pen is hard to get out, too. It is still there. Probably will be for a while. Oh, also the same thing happened with my windows the same day. They had been covered with window crayon for weeks and I finally decided to wash them. then Dozer smeared mud all over the outside of them. 10 min after I cleaned them. Yay.

The jalapeno incident.

I love making salsa in the summer, and this year decided to plant all the ingredients I would need so they all would be garden fresh. So I planted a jalapeno plant. Actually, 4 plants. See, they only come in 4 packs and I felt bad killing the rest. Well, my hubby has been really adventurous in the canning department with our new pressure canner, and he wanted to try to can some jalapenos for nachos and what not. The whole thing went off without a hitch, and clean up was great. We threw out all the waste to the chickens. My hubby had told me where he threw them too so I could try to keep Dozer away from them. Just in case. Well, later on that day Dozer decided to go outside to play. I'm so serious, it was only a couple of minutes! I was just trying to finish one row on the blanket I was sewing. I get up to check on him, and he is already at the back door coming back in. Nothing new. He is whining a little bit, so I get some water. Doesn't want it. So I get a snack. Doesn't want that either. Now the whining is escalating to a cry. He has tears streaming and snot all over his face. I get a towel to clean up his face while I am trying to figure out what is wrong. He kept putting his hands to his mouth, so I look all around in there. No cuts, no swelling, no blood, no missing teeth. Looks normal. I am getting a little worried because I can't figure out what is wrong and he is still crying! I keep wiping off his face and now he is sticking out his tongue for me to wipe. Not sure why. He is still crying and starts rubbing his eye. Now his eye is getting red and a little swollen. And he will NOT let me touch it! I try to look and see what is wrong and again I can't find anything. I wipe his face again and he sticks his tongue out again for me to wipe. Click! I think I finally get what has happened. I think he ate a jalapeno. It explains everything! Why his mouth hurts, his tongue, and his eye AFTER he rubbed it. Crap. I know that the best thing to do is to eat something with a lot of fat in it to draw out the capsaisin. I get some various items, but he wont eat ANY of it. :( I try water. He wont even drink that. I try to get an ice cube for him to rub his lips, and he at least let me do that. This whole time mind you he is screaming now. :( And he continued to scream for a HALF HOUR! Poor thing! I just held him and let him cry on me because there wasn't anything I could do! I had turned on his favorite cartoon a while back to try to distract him, but it didn't work. A half hour later he starts to calm down and is starting to watch it a little with periodic crying every couple of minutes. About 45 min later he was acting normal again and felt like finally having dinner. And all was fine and dandy after that :). Poor thing! It wasn't very fun just having to let him cry, but I can't help but giggle now. Hopefully he learned a lesson!
